# Benjamin Osmun **Location**: Sheridan, Wyoming **Role**: Engineer, Cloud Architect, & Intrapreneur **Email**: benjamin@cloud-team.com ## About Me I'm a systems thinker who builds houses, automates cloud infrastructure, and fixes things when they break. I don't just write code—I focus on client relations, finding solutions that fit goals, budgets, and deliver end-to-end value. Whether I'm explaining the power of leverage on a whiteboard or optimizing AI infrastructure, that relentless drive to master and share complex systems eventually found its ultimate, satiating outlet in the cloud. ## Timeline & Story - **Tinkering (2013-2015)**: I knew I wanted to go into technology when I started tinkering with computers and electronics at around 13. I started taking broken desktop towers from family members and cobbling them together, installing Ubuntu just because they were too slow otherwise. - **Early Teachings (2014-2015)**: Taught myself to fly fish in a backyard in Sheridan, WY. It was the first deeply challenging, methodical discipline I ever learned—matching the hatch, reading the water, practicing the cast—and it wired my brain to enjoy complex problem-solving. - **The Classroom (2016-2017)**: Took every computer science class available. Ended up at the front of the room helping teachers and sharing what I'd figured out with the rest of the class. - **Side Hustles (2016-2017)**: Started doing phone repairs for people on the side to make extra money and keep my hands busy. - **Full-Time at the District (2017-2021)**: Hired full-time by Sheridan County School District #2 as a Computer Technician. Managed thousands of Chromebooks/MacBooks, Cisco network equipment, and enterprise MDM. - **Building A Family (2018-2019)**: Married in May 2018. Built a strong conviction that I could build a fulfilling career while still being a great father and husband. - **Just Figuring It Out (2018-2019)**: When a massive pile of broken MacBooks accumulated at the district and we ran out of donor parts, I saw an opportunity rather than a dead end. I convinced the district to buy a microscope and a soldering station, tracked down unreleased schematics online, and taught myself logic board repair. - **The First House (2020-2021)**: With zero experience, I learned framing and electrical on the job and pulled a permit to build my first house. - **Modernizing A Business (2021)**: Modernized a custom high-end home developer's hand-written bidding process and brought design internal by teaching myself Autodesk Revit on the job. - **TAM & Cloud Strategy (2021-Present)**: Joined a fast-growing cloud consulting startup. Today, I work as a Technical Account Manager (TAM), recovering stalled enterprise projects and leveraging my business interpersonal skills. - **Family & Foundations (Present)**: Wrapped up my 3rd house build and now on my 4th project (a spec duplex). I own a 4-plex, an Airbnb, and commercial lots. I have 4 amazing kids and everything I build is just the foundation for them. ## Featured Engagements ### Startup Maturation & Product Strategy Acted as an intrapreneur to help mature a startup through a critical transition period. I led initiatives to develop and sell new productized offerings, shifting the company away from purely billing hours to delivering scalable, structured solutions. I also played a key role in driving internal structural changes to support scaling from 6 to nearly 40 employees. **Tags**: Product Strategy, Intrapreneurship, Go-To-Market, Scaling, Operations ### Life Sciences Infrastructure Operated at every level of the stack—from hands-in-the-weeds engineering to high-level architecture. Migrated multiple environments (Stage, Test, Prod) into a fully automated Terraform IaC workflow. Now, I officially own the entire account, managing the relationship, scoping SOWs, and leading cross-training with their internal dev teams. **Tags**: Terraform, Azure, IaC, TAM, Account Management ### Enterprise Turnarounds & Partnerships I took over enterprise account relationships when they needed help, brought the health of the engagements back on track, and usually brought in more work because of it. Similarly, I acted as TAM for a major K3s/Kubernetes client, fostering the relationship and growing it from a small consulting gig into a full, deep-rooted partnership. **Tags**: Client Relations, Kubernetes / K3s, Account Turnaround ### Vector DBs & Knowledge Bases I built a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) POC that ingested Confluence pages and Slack threads into Qdrant, using an LLM to summarize and retrieve company knowledge. Just a deep-dive to stay ahead of the curve. **Tags**: RAG, Qdrant, Python, LLMs, Vector Search ## Testimonials "Ben is not only an extremely talented engineer, but is also uniquely skilled at client relations.
